DIANIC INITIATION: A Year and a Day Study

A Year and a Day Study for Initiation into the Dianic tradition through Guardians of the Grove/Temple of Diana, Inc.

To initiate is to cause a process or action to begin.

To initiate into the Dianic Tradition is to declare oneself a beginner who knows enough to continue the pursuit of knowledge, to integrate and to practice beginning skills. To initiate is to commit to continue opening one’s sacred Self to Goddess and Her revealed Mysteries.

There are two types of Dianic Initiation. Formal initiation into the tradition by one’s teachers and elders is offered in-person on the holy day of February Eve in Southern California (the birthplace of our tradition). To receive formal initiation into the tradition, a student must have studied the Dianic tradition for a minimum of year and a day with at least one of our Temple of Diana groves which offers foundational classes. Please contact our groves to find out what study paths to formal initiation are offered. Formal initiation is by mutual consent between student and teacher.

Alternatively, self-initiation is a self-created ritual between a woman and Goddess and can take place wherever and whenever the initiate desires. It is recommended that a woman study the Dianic tradition for at least a year and a day before self-initiation.

Whether by formal initiation or self-initiation, this rite is about making a commitment to the Dianic path as one’s spiritual “home.”

Our in-person formal rite of initiation is required prior to priestess ordination.

These are the required classes for initiation spread out throughout the year through Guardians of the Grove:

The classes listed as “new” are consolidated topics that have been offered separately and in greater detail. For students who have already taken these topics in their longer form, the requirement for initiation will have been met.

  1. Intro to the Dianic Tradition talk

  2. Feminist Witchcraft in the Dianic Tradition (FWDT) – 6-week series

  3. Spellcraft 1 – This is a 3-session series - Pre-req: FWDT (Spellcraft 2 is recommended, but not required)

  4. New class: Women’s Mysteries and the Women’s Wheel of the Year – with Hestia – 2 session series. This 2-session class is a condensed version of these topics.

  5. New Class: Purification of Self, Space, and Casting the Circle – This 1-session class teaches students the choreography that accompanies the energetic practices of Purification and Circle Casting. Our in-person Energetics for Magic, Ritual, and Daily Life is the best choice, but at a minimum this new class is sufficient for initiation requirements.

  6. The Art of Invocation - 4-session series

  7. Year-End Discussion for Initiation

Attendance in online seasonal rituals (recommended but not required)
